Bombay Recycling Concern (BRC) is a registered social enterprise addressing post-consumer textile waste management by empowering the used clothes recycler community, traditionally known as Bhandiwale/Bartanwale in Mumbai.
BRC promotes Reuse, Repair, and Reintroduction of secondhand clothing to benefit underprivileged urban and rural populations while providing livelihoods for the recycler community through organized markets.
These markets make affordable clothing accessible to those in need and sustain the six-decade-old barter trade system of the Devipujak (Waghari) communities, who exchange used clothes for new utensils across major Indian cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad.

1. Why should I Donate/Recycle my used clothes?
The textile industry has one of the biggest carbon footprints and consumes a huge amount of water during the production process. By giving your used clothes a second life, you will help conserve precious resources and make our planet a better place to live in.
2. Why should I choose Bombay Recycling Concern as my recycling partner?
Bombay Recycling Concern (BRC) is a registered social enterprise which provides waste management services in the textiles sector. BRC is the only organisation which works directly with communities who have been traditionally associated with the recycling of clothes. Women and men from the Devipujak (earlier known as Waghri) community are trained and empowered to work as our pick-up and clothes processing associates.
3. What happens to my used clothes?
Used clothes are segregated into three categories based on their condition. Clothes in the lowest category are used as a wipers & machine cleaner. Clothes in the other two categories are sanitized, washed and mended, if necessary before they can be reused. These clothes are generally sold in rural and semi-urban markets at extremely cheap prices (generally below Rs 50 per item).
4. A What kind of clothes can we accept and reuse?
BRC accepts all kinds of clothes which are in a condition to be reused. It accepts shirts, trousers, jeans, T-shirts, kurtis, sarees, children wear and babywear. You can also donate bedsheets, blankets and linen. Please note that BRC cannot accept undergarments and torn/soiled/unusable clothes.
5. How can I connect with BRC to recycle clothes?
BRC works all over the Mumbai Metropolitan Region including Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane. ● BRC can arrange individual pick-ups from your residence. ● BRC regularly organizes recycling campaigns in your society or locality. ● BRC organizes special collection drives at offices and colleges. ● You can also drop off your clothes at our designated drop-boxes.
6. Do I have to pay for individual pick-ups from my residence?
NO. Currently BRC is covering the costs incurred during pick-up. A minimum of 10 kgs of clothes is necessary to arrange an individual pick-up. If you have a lesser quantity, ask your neighbours so that we can arrange two or more pickups in the same location.

8. When are pick-ups scheduled?
After you contact BRC, we will confirm a pick-up time with you. We arrange pick-ups from Monday to Saturday between 10:30 am and 6 pm.
9. Where can I drop off my clothes in Mumbai?
BRC is the designated clothes recycling partner of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). We currently have drop-boxes at the following locations:

● Goregaon West: BMC, P/South ward office
