Environmental degradation

Environmental degradation due to the textile & fashion industry: we are producing textile in large quantities but what about consumption and environmental degradation due to textile manufacturing? This industry is one of the biggest pollutants. Textile industry is using chemicals, petroleum products, dying processes, coloring etc to have a hazardous impact on the environment.

• Textile & fashion industry is second largest polluting in the world after oil & petroleum industry
  One pair of jeans consumes around 11000 liters of water.(starting to end process).
• One cotton T- shirt manufacturing take about 2,700 liters of water ( including agriculture to final buyer of t-shirt)
• Agriculture uses approximately 20,000 liters of water to produce just 1 kg (one kg) of cotton.
• Annually consumers waste more than million tons of textiles produced and sold in the market, where all clothes are dumped? Either water bodies or landfill. We need to think about environmental issues.
